Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed as the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The 36-year-old will be taking over the reins of the team from Shreyas Iyer, who has moved to Punjab Kings. Rahane will be the ninth captain of the team, following in the footsteps of Gautam Gambhir, who led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

Under Gambhir’s leadership, KKR won the most number of matches (69) and made it to the playoffs thrice. Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, has the best win/loss ratio of 1.54 among all KKR captains. Dinesh Karthik, Sourav Ganguly, Eoin Morgan, Nitish Rana, Brendon McCullum, and Jacques Kallis have also captained the team in the past.

Rahane will be looking to lead KKR to another successful season and defend their title. With a strong team and his experience in leadership roles, he will be aiming to continue the legacy of success that KKR has enjoyed under previous captains. The franchise will be hoping that Rahane can bring his calm and composed demeanor to the field and inspire the team to perform at their best in the upcoming IPL season.
