KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane also wore a black armband during the toss. Gopinath was India’s oldest Test cricketer and played a pivotal role in India’s first Test victory against England in 1952. He was a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu cricket, contributing to the state’s growth in domestic cricket. Gopinath also served as a national selector and manager of the Indian team. Following his death, Chandrakant Patankar became India’s oldest living Test cricketer. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed condolences, recognizing Gopinath’s contributions to Indian cricket. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia acknowledged Gopinath’s legacy and extended heartfelt condolences to his family. Gopinath’s impact on Indian cricket remains significant, and his memory lives on in the cricketing community.
