Chennai Super Kings and Stephen Fleming have decided to part ways after a successful and enduring partnership in the Indian Premier League. The decision was reached with respect and gratitude, following discussions between Fleming and the CSK management.
Fleming, who joined CSK as a player in 2008 and later became head coach in 2009, led the team to five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles. However, in recent years, CSK has failed to qualify for the Playoffs, raising questions about Fleming’s leadership as all of the team’s titles came under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
Fleming has also coached other franchises like Joburg Super Kings and Texas Super Kings, but without the same success. The decision to part ways comes after TSK finished last in the Major League Cricket this year and CSK struggled to keep up with the evolving T20 format.
Rupa Gurunath, owner of CSK, expressed gratitude for Fleming’s commitment and leadership, while KS Viswanathan, Managing Director of CSK, praised Fleming for defining the team’s culture and values. Fleming, in turn, expressed gratitude for his time with CSK and the memories they created together.
Despite parting ways, Fleming will always remain a part of CSK’s legacy, with the team and fans cheering him on in his future endeavors. The announcement was made on July 13, 2026.
