Cricket Australia has officially announced the fixtures and venues for the upcoming Big Bash League season, with the 16th edition set to kick off in India. The MA Chindambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the historic season opener between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers on December 12, marking the first BBL match ever played overseas. The season will feature a 40-match regular season, with all games broadcast live on Fox Cricket.
The BBL|16 season will see the introduction of new rules, including designated batters and fielders, adding strategic options for teams and creating new dynamics for fans to enjoy. The schedule also includes a return of Christmas Eve cricket under lights at Melbourne’s Junction Oval, with the MCG unavailable due to the Boxing Day Test.
The Melbourne Derbies will now take place at the MCG, as the Renegades bid farewell to their former home at Marvel Stadium. The season will culminate in the finals series, starting with the Qualifier final on January 19 and concluding with the Final on Australia Day evening.
