Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has voiced his opinion on the controversial impact player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL), calling for its removal. Tendulkar believes that the rule, introduced in 2023, disrupts the balance between bat and ball in T20 cricket by allowing teams to substitute a player with one of the five listed substitutes at any point in the match.

Tendulkar, speaking at the ESPNcricinfo awards, expressed his concern about the impact player rule favoring batters on already batting-friendly surfaces. He suggested scrapping the rule to restore equilibrium between the two facets of the game.

Additionally, Tendulkar proposed changes to the PowerPlay structure, advocating for a bowling PowerPlay to complement the existing batting one. He recommended allowing one bowler to bowl five overs instead of the current four, enabling teams to utilize their premier bowler for a larger portion of the innings.

By implementing these changes, Tendulkar believes that teams will have more control over the game and the best bowlers will have the opportunity to make a greater impact. With the support of other prominent players like Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, Tendulkar’s suggestions aim to enhance the competitiveness and fairness of the IPL.
