Shreyas Iyer set three new records during Punjab Kings’ victory over Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Iyer’s unbeaten 87 off 41 balls led PBKS to chase down 204 runs with an over to spare. Alongside contributions from Josh Inglis and Nehal Wadhera, PBKS secured a place in the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore on June 3. Iyer broke the record for hitting the most sixes in a season by a Punjab batter, surpassing Glenn Maxwell and Chris Gayle with a total of 38 sixes. Additionally, he became the first captain to lead three different franchises to an IPL final. This victory marked the first time Mumbai Indians failed to defend a 200-plus score in the IPL, with PBKS achieving the highest-ever score in IPL playoffs/knockouts. Shreyas Iyer was named the player of the match for his outstanding performance. In the first innings, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma were the top scorers for Mumbai Indians. PBKS won the match by 5 wickets, with a final score of MI 203 for 6 and PBKS 207/5 in 19 overs.
