Chennai Super Kings suffered a rare defeat at their home ground, the MAC Stadium, at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore after a 17-year hiatus. The loss was demoralizing for the Super Kings, who now have little time to regroup before their first away game of the season against Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.

Rajasthan Royals have also had a rocky start to their campaign, losing their first two matches in contrasting styles. They were thrashed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match and then struggled against Kolkata Knight Riders, falling prey to spinners Moeen Ali and Varun Chakaravarthy. The Royals’ batting lineup has been inconsistent, especially against spin, with Sanju Samson still recovering from a finger injury and stand-in captain Riyan Parag showing signs of inexperience. Their bowling department, led by Jofra Archer, has also failed to make an impact.

In preparation for the game, Chennai Super Kings may bring in Nathan Ellis to replace Sam Curran, as the Australian has had success at the Barsapara Stadium in the past. Ellis had recorded his best IPL figures against Rajasthan Royals during the 2023 season while playing for Punjab Kings.

The match is expected to be a battle between two teams eager to get back to winning ways on a slow and low pitch. Both teams will be looking to make a strong comeback and secure crucial points in the ongoing tournament.
