England international Jacob Bethell’s IPL 2026 campaign has been cut short due to an injury to his left ring finger. The news was confirmed by his team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, on Saturday. Bethell sustained the injury during a match against Punjab Kings and will now return to England for further evaluation ahead of the upcoming Test series.
Bethell was unable to play in his team’s recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad as a result of the injury. He had replaced Phil Salt in the playing XI but struggled to make an impact, scoring only 96 runs in seven innings this season. His highest score was 27 runs off 27 balls against Mumbai Indians.
Despite Bethell’s absence, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished at the top of the points table with nine wins from 14 games. They are set to face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday in Dharamshala.
The team’s performance in the IPL has been commendable, but Bethell’s early exit is a blow to their campaign. Fans will have to wait and see how the team copes without his presence in the upcoming matches.
The announcement of Bethell’s injury and subsequent return to England was made on May 23, 2026. It remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined for and if he will be able to recover in time for future matches.
