Despite a two-year ban for foreign players who withdraw from the IPL post-auction, availability remains a concern, with star players like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood missing matches due to various reasons.
Burman emphasized the importance of clarity around player availability when they commit to a franchise, as it impacts team planning and fan expectations. He stressed the need for collaboration among all parties involved to align schedules and make clearer commitments. Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani also expressed frustration over player availability, particularly when key players like Starc are unavailable from the start of the season due to decisions made by their national boards.
While acknowledging the limitations faced by franchises in such situations, Badani hoped for a future solution to ensure players can participate in the IPL from the beginning. The issue of foreign player availability in the IPL remains a complex challenge that requires ongoing dialogue and cooperation among the BCCI, franchises, players, and international boards to address effectively.
