The West Indies experienced the negative impact of players becoming full-time T20 freelancers, which led to a decline in their international cricket performance. In response, Cricket Australia has reportedly offered Pat Cummins a $12 million deal to prioritize national duty until 2029, with a proposed extension worth $4 million annually over three years. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne are also in talks for similar deals. CA’s head of cricket, James Allsopp, emphasized the importance of rewarding top players for their long-term performance and securing their future. This move comes ahead of Australia’s busy schedule, including 21 Test matches in the next year. The reported offer aims to prevent players from walking away from international cricket for lucrative franchise deals. If finalized, the deal could impact Cummins’ participation in the Big Bash League. Currently, Cummins and Head are playing in IPL 2026, contributing to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s success in the tournament.
