Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL, found himself in a heated debate with a journalist who claimed that he would be released by the team ahead of the next season due to his disappointing performance this year. Pant, who was bought for a whopping ₹27 crore in the mega auction last year, had a poor season, scoring only 135 runs in 12 matches at an average of 12 and a strike rate of 100. With LSG out of playoff contention, the speculation about Pant’s future in the team arose. Journalist Vaibhav Bhola suggested that LSG might release Pant due to his high fee, to which Pant responded by calling it “fake news” and urging for responsible reporting. Despite Pant’s denial, Bhola stood by his claim, stating that the management would make the final decision. LSG’s campaign has been marred by inconsistency, injuries, and over-reliance on overseas players. Injuries to key bowlers like Mohsin Khan and Mayank Yadav, as well as poor performances from the middle order, have added to LSG’s woes. Pant acknowledged the challenges faced by the team due to these absences.
