The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has threatened legal action against international players who are pulling out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the last minute. Naqvi’s warning came after Dasun Shanaka was signed by the Rajasthan Royals as a replacement player, despite initially being picked by Lahore Qalandars in the PSL.

Shanaka is not the only player to make this switch, as Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani was also named as a replacement player for the IPL after being selected to play for Islamabad United in the PSL. The PCB had previously taken legal action against South African pacer Corbin Bosch for a similar situation.

Despite these challenges, Naqvi remains optimistic about the PSL’s success, highlighting the participation of high-profile international players like Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Glenn Maxwell in the upcoming edition. He emphasized that the PSL is still able to attract top talent, even with the competition from the IPL.

In light of the West Asia crisis, the PSL 2026 will be played behind closed doors in just two venues, Lahore and Karachi, with the opening ceremony canceled. The tournament will kick off with a match between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen.
