Mumbai Indians (MI) announced on Thursday that Raghu Sharma will be replacing the injured Vignesh Puthur for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. Vignesh had to withdraw from the tournament due to bone stress reactions in both of his shins.
Raghu Sharma, a leg-spinner from Punjab, was initially part of the Mumbai Indians support bowlers but has now been promoted to the main squad. He has a decent track record, having played 11 first-class, nine List A, and three T20 matches for Punjab and Pondicherry. In his first-class career, Raghu has achieved five 5-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket hauls. He also performed well in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Punjab, taking 14 wickets in nine matches.
On the other hand, Vignesh had played five games for MI, managing to pick up 6 wickets, with a notable performance on his debut against Chennai Super Kings where he took three wickets.
Despite his injury, Vignesh will remain with the team to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation under the guidance of the Mumbai Indians Medical and Sports Science team.
The addition of Raghu Sharma to the Mumbai Indians squad brings depth and experience to their bowling lineup as they aim to continue their strong performance in the IPL 2025 season.
