The police in Bengaluru have arrested the main accused and several minors in connection with a series of mobile phone thefts during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on March 28. 21 mobile phones worth Rs 18 lakhs were seized from the main accused. The reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, won against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening fixture of IPL 2026 at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to the police, the stolen phones belonged to spectators at the match. The main accused and minors are currently under investigation. The police commissioner stated that complaints were received after the match about mobile phone thefts in and around the stadium, leading to the arrests based on CCTV and technical evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to gather more information from those in custody and to apprehend others involved. It is suspected that the perpetrators came from other states and stayed in a hotel to commit the thefts. A total of 29 cases have been registered, and authorities are looking into whether similar incidents occurred at other match venues.
