Amid growing concerns over MS Dhoni’s absence from IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings’ head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that the delay in his appearance was due to a second calf injury. Initially sidelined at the start of the season, Dhoni was expected to recover in two weeks, but after four weeks, there is still no update on his return. Fleming disclosed that Dhoni had tweaked his calf during a warm-up game, causing a setback in his recovery process. Despite his efforts in training, Dhoni has been cautious and limited himself to facing throwdowns. Speculation arose over his return when he was seen keeping wickets in the nets, but he did not feature in recent matches. Chennai is currently sixth in the points table with five defeats from eight games. With a five-day break before their next match against the Mumbai Indians on May 2, it is uncertain if Dhoni will be fit to play. Fleming emphasized that Dhoni is working hard with the physio and undergoing rehabilitation, urging patience and understanding from fans and media.
