During a practice session ahead of the IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings’ wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni was spotted batting in the nets at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Initially sidelined due to a calf strain for the first two weeks of the tournament, Dhoni was seen training by broadcasters the night before the match. The following day, he joined the team on the main ground but initially refrained from training, opting to interact with his teammates instead.

Later on, the 45-year-old veteran donned his gear towards the end of the session and practiced taking throwdowns alongside Urvil Patel for nearly half an hour. Despite a slightly shaky start, Dhoni quickly found his rhythm and started hitting big shots that sailed into the stands. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, when asked about Dhoni’s return timeline, remained vague, stating that he would only be able to provide an update after the completion of the 13th day of Dhoni’s recovery, following the initial 14-day prognosis.

The team seems hopeful for Dhoni’s swift return to full fitness as they prepare for upcoming matches in the tournament. The sight of the legendary cricketer back in action has surely boosted the morale of the CSK squad as they gear up for their upcoming challenges. Published on Apr 02, 2026.
