The Melbourne Renegades have announced a significant change for the upcoming Big Bash League season, as they will no longer play their marquee fixtures at Marvel Stadium. Instead, the Renegades will make the MCG their primary home ground for the 2026/27 season. Renegades General Manager Max Abbott expressed excitement about bringing matches to the iconic MCG, citing the success of last season’s Melbourne Derby that drew over 68,000 fans. While acknowledging Marvel Stadium’s role in the club’s history, Abbott emphasized the opportunity to create more memorable moments at the MCG.
Renegades captain Will Sutherland also shared his enthusiasm for playing at the MCG, highlighting the incredible atmosphere of the previous derby and the anticipation of more opportunities to engage with fans. The Renegades will host both Melbourne derbies at the MCG next season, with additional matches expected at Junction Oval. The team will operate independently from Cricket Victoria, pending approval for private investment. Marvel Stadium and the AFL expressed gratitude for the Renegades’ partnership over the years and wished the club success in their new home at the MCG.
Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox welcomed the Renegades to the MCG, emphasizing the importance of the BBL in the summer cricket schedule. Fans can look forward to exciting matches at the MCG as the Renegades embark on this new chapter.
