Lucknow Super Giants has made a significant signing for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2025 season by bringing in New Zealand pacer Will O’Rourke. The team announced the signing on Thursday as a replacement for the injured Mayank Yadav.
O’Rourke was acquired for Rs. 3 crore, marking his first stint with an IPL team. The decision to sign him came after Mayank suffered a back injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season. Mayank had already missed some games earlier in the season due to toe and back injuries, and upon his return, he only managed to play two games, taking two wickets but struggling with a high economy rate of 12.50.
Currently, Lucknow Super Giants are in seventh place with 10 points from 11 games. In order to keep their Playoff hopes alive, they will need to win all their remaining league games. Led by Rishabh Pant, the team is set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in their upcoming matches.
The addition of O’Rourke to the squad brings a new dynamic to the team’s bowling attack and will be crucial in their quest for a Playoff spot. With the season entering its final stages, Lucknow Super Giants will be looking to make a strong push towards securing a spot in the Playoffs and potentially competing for the IPL title.
