A cricketer from Karnataka’s Belagavi was scammed out of Rs 24 lakh in a fake Rajasthan Royals IPL selection fraud. Rakesh Yadure, a state-level player, was promised a spot on the Rajasthan Royals team after catching the attention of talent scouts in Hyderabad in May 2024. Encouraged by the opportunity, Yadure eagerly paid a total of Rs 23.53 lakh in multiple installments between December 2024 and April 2025. The scammers lured him with promises of high match fees but never delivered any official team gear or arrangements. When they asked for an additional Rs 3 lakh and failed to fulfill their promises, Yadure realized he had been duped. He reported the scam to the police, leading to a cybercrime investigation. It was revealed that the suspects were operating from Rajasthan. Despite his losses, Yadure expressed hope that the police would recover his money and prevent others from falling victim to similar scams.
