Prithvi Shaw’s cricketing journey has been a rollercoaster ride, from soaring highs to crushing lows. Hailed as a prodigy from Mumbai’s cricketing grounds, Shaw showed immense promise by leading India to Under-19 World Cup victory in 2018 and scoring a century on Test debut the same year. However, as his form dipped and fitness issues arose, doubts about his ability to handle early fame started to surface.
The 2024-25 season marked a low point for Shaw when he was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team due to fitness and disciplinary reasons. His fortunes took another hit when he went unsold in the IPL auction after representing Delhi Capitals for seven seasons. Seeking a fresh start, Shaw moved to Maharashtra for the 2025-26 domestic season, but his performance tapered off after a promising start.
Despite his setbacks, Shaw has a chance at redemption with Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026, having been picked up at his base price of Rs. 75 lakh in the mini-auction. Shaw acknowledges his past mistakes and is focused on making a comeback for India, working hard to improve his game and mental toughness during the enforced break from last year’s IPL.
Now 26, Shaw reflects on the importance of being present and learning from his past experiences. He emphasizes the need for self-improvement and mental strength, having taken a step back to refresh and strengthen himself. Shaw’s determination to bounce back and prove his worth on the cricket field is evident as he prepares for the upcoming season with Delhi Capitals.
