India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav openly acknowledged that players are already thinking about the upcoming IPL mega auction and retentions, even while they are in South Africa for the four-match T20I series. The IPL mega auction for the 2025 season is scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25, just a week after the conclusion of the India-South Africa T20I series.

During the toss for the first T20I between India and South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav admitted that it is natural for players to have thoughts about the upcoming auction. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the series at hand while acknowledging that discussions about the auction do take place.

On the other hand, South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram stated that his team’s focus remains solely on the series against India, with discussions centered on achieving positive results in the matches.

In terms of player retentions, SunRisers Hyderabad decided to release Aiden Markram, while Mumbai Indians retained Suryakumar Yadav along with other key players. The upcoming mega auction will see a total of 1,574 players, including 1,165 Indian players and 409 overseas players, participating in the bidding process.

In the first T20I between India and South Africa, Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bowl first. The playing XIs for both teams included notable players such as Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Abhishek Sharma for India, and Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, and David Miller for South Africa.

Overall, while the players are aware of the upcoming IPL auction, they are committed to performing well in the ongoing series and focusing on the task at hand before shifting their attention to the auction proceedings.
