Jos Buttler was acquired by Gujarat Titans for a whopping Rs 15.75 crore at the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction in Jeddah. The bidding war for Buttler began with his former team, Rajasthan Royals, but Lucknow Super Giants also joined in. Ultimately, Gujarat Titans outbid their competitors to secure Buttler’s services.
Parthiv Patel, the batting and assistant coach of Gujarat Titans, expressed his excitement about having Buttler in their team. He praised Buttler’s versatility in batting and wicketkeeping, and his potential to assist Shubman Gill. The England international was released by Rajasthan Royals before the auction, having been with the franchise since 2018, following a stint with Mumbai Indians.
Buttler has an impressive IPL record, having played 107 matches and scoring 3,582 runs at an average of 38.10, including seven centuries and 19 fifties. In the 2022 season, he won the Orange Cap by scoring 862 runs in 17 matches, becoming the first player to achieve this feat twice.
Despite facing a calf injury recently, Buttler showcased his batting prowess with a quickfire 83 in his return T20I for England against the West Indies. He has primarily served as an opener since joining Rajasthan Royals and also brings strong leadership qualities to any team, being a T20 World Cup-winning captain.
