Chennai Super Kings have completed their coaching exodus as former bowling coach Eric Simons and fielding coach James Foster have left the Indian Premier League franchise to join England’s Test team’s backroom staff. This follows Stephen Fleming’s move from CSK to the English side as the men’s red ball head coach. Their appointments have been confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in a statement on Monday.

Fleming, who had been with CSK for 18 years, stepped down from his role with the franchise. He and his New Zealand teammate Brendon McCullum will now split coaching duties for the England men’s Test team and white ball sides respectively.

Simons, a South Africa international, has an impressive resume, having previously served as South Africa’s head coach and as a bowling consultant with the Indian men’s team. He joined CSK in 2018 and has been part of the successful title-winning campaigns with Fleming.

Foster, an Englishman, had previously supported England as a white-ball consultant and has also worked with the Black Caps. He has a strong presence in the global franchise circuit.

England’s Test backroom staff will also include Marcus Trescothick and Richard Dawson, who will lead the national spin bowling department.

Fleming and his team will kick off their tenure with England’s upcoming Test tour of South Africa. Meanwhile, the Super Kings have appointed Zaheer Khan as their head coach and Mohit Sharma as the new bowling coach.

The coaching changes mark a new chapter for both CSK and the England Test team, with exciting prospects ahead for both sides. The article was published on October 12, 2026.
