Rajasthan Royals will once again be playing some of their home games away from their traditional home base at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur for the upcoming IPL season. This time, they will be playing three out of their seven home games at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati. This decision has raised concerns, with cricket analyst Aakash Chopra questioning the team’s connection to Guwahati, which is located in the east of India while Rajasthan is in the west.
Chopra expressed his confusion over the choice of Guwahati as the alternate home venue for the Royals, especially considering that other teams like Kolkata and Punjab Kings have chosen venues closer to their catchment areas. Despite Riyan Parag being named as the captain of the team, Chopra still finds it puzzling why the Royals have opted for Guwahati.
The Royals will be hosting big-ticket matches against Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Guwahati. As the IPL season kicks off on March 28, the Rajasthan Royals will need to make their temporary home in Guwahati a fortress to ensure a successful campaign.
