Sunrisers Hyderabad’s head coach, Daniel Vettori, expressed his disappointment with the slow pitches at their home ground, which he felt did not benefit their free-scoring batters. The team was eliminated from the playoff race in this year’s Indian Premier League after their home game against Delhi Capitals was washed out. Hyderabad managed to win only three out of 11 games and two out of six home matches this season.
Vettori mentioned that the conditions this year were not as expected, with the pitches being different compared to previous years. The surfaces were challenging for the batters, as evidenced by the fewer high-scoring games. The slow pitches affected Hyderabad’s top-order batsmen like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan.
The team focused on assessing the conditions and adapting their batting approach accordingly. Vettori acknowledged that the players are naturally aggressive but had to adjust to the conditions this season. Despite a strong start in their match against Delhi Capitals, where skipper Pat Cummins took three early wickets and restricted the opposition to 133-7, the game was abandoned due to rain before Hyderabad could start their chase.
Overall, Hyderabad struggled to perform consistently on their home ground due to the challenging pitch conditions, leading to their early exit from the IPL playoffs.
