A 76-year-old British broadcast engineer, Jan William Langford, was found dead in his hotel room in South Mumbai while in India for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). He was discovered unconscious and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The postmortem examination revealed no suspicious circumstances, leading to the case being treated as an unnatural death pending further investigation.

Langford had been staying at Mumbai’s Trident Hotel since March 24 and was found in his room after not responding to calls from the hotel staff. The BCCI and IPL governing council issued a statement expressing their condolences and offering support to Langford’s family.

The officials confirmed that no foul play was suspected, and the case is under investigation. The BCCI emphasized the importance of the health and safety of all involved in the IPL operations. Langford’s untimely demise has deeply saddened the cricket community, and efforts are being made to assist his family during this difficult time.
