The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the player auction for the 2027 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place in the second week of December 2026. This decision comes after the past three editions of the auction were held in overseas locations like Dubai, Jeddah (mega auction), and Abu Dhabi. IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal expressed his desire to bring the event back to India to mark 20 years of the IPL.
In addition to the IPL auction, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction for 2027 will be held at the Grand Hyatt Kochi on October 28, 2026. The franchises participating in the WPL will have to submit their list of retained players by September 28. The upcoming season of the WPL will be played from January 14 to February 7, 2027.
The BCCI aims to make the IPL 2027 auction a grand affair, celebrating two decades of the prestigious tournament. The host city for the auction will be decided based on the availability of the BCCI’s preferred venue. This move is part of the board’s efforts to bring the IPL back to India after hosting it abroad for the past few years.
