Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson, who withdrew from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 due to personal reasons, has now signed with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. This move comes as Johnson replaces the injured Nathan Ellis in the CSK squad. Johnson, who has represented Australia in 13 international matches, including 5 ODIs and 8 T20Is, will join CSK for INR 1.5 Crore. He has previously played for Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL.

Johnson was initially set to play for the Quetta Gladiators in the PSL 2026 but withdrew from the tournament on March 15. His decision to join the IPL over the PSL follows a trend of overseas players opting for the Indian league, with Blessing Muzarabani and Dasun Shanaka also making similar choices.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed intentions to take action against players who ditch the PSL for the IPL, citing legal consequences for such actions. Despite the clash in schedules between the PSL and IPL, the PCB remains committed to upholding the league’s integrity. The PSL 2026 season is set to commence on March 26, just two days before the start of the IPL’s 19th edition.
