Zeeshan Ansari made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The leg spinner, hailing from Lucknow, replaced Simarjeet Singh in the playing 12 as SRH skipper Pat Cummins chose to bat first after winning the toss. Zeeshan was bought by the 2016 champions for INR 40 lakhs at the mega auction held in December last year.
In the match, Zeeshan made an impact by taking the wickets of Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk in quick succession. He also dismissed the dangerous KL Rahul in his third over. Despite having limited experience in T20 cricket, with just one appearance for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Zeeshan has shown promise with 17 wickets in five First-Class games.
Zeeshan’s impressive performances in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League for Meerut Mavericks, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 24 scalps in 12 innings, including a five-for, highlighted his talent with the ball. Partnering with Rishabh Pant in the Under-19 Indian team, Zeeshan is looking to make a mark in the IPL and establish himself as a reliable spinner for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
