Kolkata Knight Riders are eagerly awaiting Matheesha Pathirana’s availability as the Sri Lankan pacer recovers from a left calf injury. Pathirana, who was bought for a staggering Rs. 18 crore at the auction, is a top priority for KKR. However, Sri Lanka Cricket has not yet given the green light for him to travel to India and join the team.
Assistant coach Shane Watson mentioned that they are in a “waiting game” regarding Pathirana’s situation and are following Sri Lanka Cricket’s guidance to ensure his full recovery before his return. Watson emphasized that they share the same goal as Sri Lankan cricket in wanting Pathirana to be fit and not rushing his comeback.
The franchise is keen on having Pathirana join the squad as soon as possible but only when he is completely ready. They are hopeful that the clearance will come soon to not only enhance his match readiness but also facilitate his integration into the team.
Pathirana’s presence is highly anticipated by KKR as they recognize the talent and skill he brings to the table. They are cautious not to rush his return to avoid any further injury and want him to be at his best when he does make his debut.
As they await the clearance, KKR remains optimistic and hopeful that Pathirana will join them sooner rather than later. Published on Mar 28, 2026.
