Indian cricketer Virat Kohli made history in the Indian Premier League by becoming the first batter to surpass 4000 runs in run chases. This milestone was achieved during the IPL 2026 opener between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Additionally, Kohli also climbed up to become the sixth-highest run-getter in T20 cricket, overtaking former Pakistan batter Shoaib Malik.
In the match, SRH recovered from an early collapse to post a competitive total of 201/9, led by a brilliant knock from stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan who scored 80 runs off 38 deliveries. RCB, in response, chased down the target in style with Kohli’s unbeaten 69 off 38 balls and Devdutt Padikkal’s 61 off 26 balls being the standout performances. RCB achieved the fastest 200-plus run chase in IPL history, reaching the target in just 15.4 overs.
Overall, it was a high-scoring and thrilling encounter with impressive performances from both teams, but RCB emerged victorious in the end.
