The ban on using saliva on the cricket ball has been lifted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the upcoming IPL 2025, starting on March 22. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakaravarthy believes that this change will not have a significant impact on the game. The decision to allow saliva was made after all ten captains gave their consent during a meeting at the BCCI headquarters. Additionally, a new rule has been introduced requiring a second new ball in the second innings to counter the impact of dew on the match. Varun feels that this rule may benefit spinners as the ball will not get as wet. His perspective differs from pacers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, who believe that using saliva will help bowlers achieve reverse swing. Shami emphasized the importance of using saliva to make the game more interesting, while Siraj highlighted the benefits of maintaining the shine on the ball for reverse swing. Varun, on the other hand, does not see a significant impact from the use of saliva on the ball.
