Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at the age of 14, made history as the youngest player to ever debut in the IPL. He stepped in for Sanju Samson, who was sidelined due to an abdomen injury as Rajasthan Royals faced Lucknow Super Giants. Suryavanshi opened the run-chase with Yashasvi Jaiswal after LSG posted a total of 180/5 in 20 overs. The left-handed batter, who turned 14 on March 27, was bought by RR for ₹1.1 crore in the previous mega auction, making him the youngest player to secure an IPL contract. Suryavanshi has previously represented India U-19 as an opener and impressed with his performance, including a 58-ball century against Australia. He also played a key role in India’s run to the 2024 Asia Cup final, scoring 176 runs at an average of 44. Head coach Rahul Dravid praised Suryavanshi’s talent and emphasized the importance of grooming him properly before putting him in the spotlight. Despite his young age, Suryavanshi showed promise and potential on the field, earning recognition as a rising star in the cricketing world.
