In his debut appearance in an IPL 2026 Playoff match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 27, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi came close to scoring the fastest century in IPL history. He fell just three runs short of the milestone, getting out for 97 off 29 balls. If he had managed to score those three runs off the delivery that dismissed him, he would have surpassed Chris Gayle’s record of a 30-ball century set in 2013.
Sooryavanshi was eventually caught at third man off the bowling of Praful Hinge. His explosive innings included five fours and an impressive 12 sixes. During his innings, he also broke Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single IPL season, reaching a total of 65 sixes in the 2026 season, surpassing Gayle’s 59 sixes in the 2012 season.
Despite missing out on the fastest century, Sooryavanshi still holds the second and third-fastest centuries in IPL history. His previous fastest century was scored in 35 balls against Gujarat Titans in 2025, followed by a 36-ball century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2026.
Published on May 27, 2026, Sooryavanshi’s remarkable performance has solidified his place as one of the most explosive batsmen in IPL history.
