In Mullanpur, Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi put on a record-breaking performance on Wednesday night during the Eliminator match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sooryavanshi smashed a sensational 97 runs off just 29 balls, coming close to breaking Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest IPL century but falling short by just one hit as he was caught attempting a six.
Despite not breaking Gayle’s record, Sooryavanshi achieved several other milestones during his incredible innings. He surpassed Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single IPL season by hitting 12 sixes, taking his total to 65 for the season. He also equaled the record for the joint-fastest half-century in IPL Playoffs, reaching the milestone in just 16 deliveries, tying with Suresh Raina.
At just 16 years old, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player to score a half-century in the IPL Playoffs, surpassing the previous record held by Prithvi Shaw. Additionally, his 12 sixes in the match set a new record for the most sixes hit by a player in an innings in IPL Playoffs, surpassing Shubman Gill’s previous record of 10 sixes.
Sooryavanshi’s performance also tied him for the most sixes hit by an Indian in an IPL innings, matching his own previous record against the same opposition earlier in the season. The match took place on May 27, 2026.
