Ishan Kishan has been acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a hefty sum of Rs. 11.25 crore at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Kishan, who recently participated in India A’s tour of Australia, Irani Cup, and Ranji Trophy, made a comeback to first-class cricket after a break since December 2022 by playing two matches for India C in the Duleep Trophy. However, due to his focus on domestic cricket over international commitments, he lost his BCCI central contract along with Shreyas Iyer.
The talented left-handed batter began his IPL career in 2016 with Gujarat Lions and later moved to Mumbai Indians in 2018, where he played until the last season before entering the auction pool. Throughout his IPL journey, Kishan has amassed an impressive total of 2,644 runs at a striking rate of 135.87. His breakout season was in IPL 2020, where he scored 516 runs at a striking rate of 145.76. One of his memorable performances included a blazing 99 in a Super Over against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
In the previous mega auction in 2022, Mumbai Indians retained Kishan for a whopping Rs. 15.25 crore. His consistency and explosive batting have made him a valuable asset in the IPL, and his acquisition by SRH is expected to strengthen their batting lineup for the upcoming season.
