Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has implemented a new requirement for players seeking to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In order to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC), players must pass a Physical Performance Test to demonstrate their fitness levels. The board has emphasized that only those who meet the required standards will be allowed to compete in both the IPL and ongoing domestic tournaments.

To prepare players for upcoming international assignments, SLC has initiated an eight-week specialized physical training program for centrally contracted players. Routine physical performance tests are also being conducted to assess the fitness levels of the players. Those who have successfully cleared the tests include Dushmantha Chameera, Pathum Nissanka, and Kamindu Mendis. However, Nuwan Thushara’s participation is pending the outcome of his Physical Performance Test.

Players like Wanindu Hasaranga, Eshan Malinga, and Matheesha Pathirana are currently undergoing rehabilitation for injuries and have not yet undergone the fitness tests. The board has stated that these players will be assessed once they complete their recovery programs.

SLC’s focus on fitness and workload management highlights the importance of maintaining peak physical condition, especially with a busy international schedule ahead. The board’s decision to prioritize fitness standards reflects their commitment to ensuring that players are in optimal shape for competitive cricket.
