Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals will face off in the IPL 2026 Eliminator in New Chandigarh on May 27. The winner of this match will advance to Qualifier 2 to take on Gujarat Titans at the same venue two days later. The team that emerges victorious on Wednesday night will aim to make history by winning the IPL after coming through the Eliminator, a feat that has not been achieved since 2016.

In 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad was the last team to win the IPL after going through the Eliminator. They finished third in the points table and went on to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator before stunning Gujarat Lions in the subsequent match. Their remarkable run culminated in a victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final, securing their only IPL title to date. Despite reaching the finals in 2018 and 2024, they have not been able to replicate their success from 2016.

The last team to reach the final through the Eliminator was Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021, where they ultimately lost to Chennai Super Kings. The upcoming clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals will determine which team will have the chance to create history and potentially lift the IPL trophy this year.
