Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins has returned to Australia for a final scan on his back injury, which will determine his availability for the remainder of the Indian Premier League. Cummins, who has been sidelined since July 2025 with only one Ashes Test appearance in between, left the IPL 2026 camp to undergo the scan by Cricket Australia’s medical team.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Cummins is expected to rejoin the SRH squad on April 17 if he is cleared by CA. He has been bowling at the nets as part of the Return to Play protocol. In his absence, Ishan Kishan has taken over the captaincy duties.

Cummins had previously mentioned on a podcast that he was recovering from a back injury and was back to bowling in the nets. He expressed optimism about returning to action by the middle of the tournament. Meanwhile, Eshan Malinga and David Payne have been filling in as overseas pacers for SRH.

The team is set to face Lucknow Super Giants at home on Sunday. Cummins’ potential return will be a boost for SRH as they aim to improve their performance in the latter stages of the IPL. The skipper’s availability will be crucial in bolstering the team’s bowling attack and leadership on the field.

The final scan results will determine Cummins’ fate, and fans will be eagerly awaiting his return to action for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Published on Apr 04, 2026.
