Indian cricketer Virat Kohli faced backlash on social media after images of him at the Mumbai airport with wife Anushka Sharma surfaced following the tragic stampede at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Social media users criticized Kohli for leaving India so soon after the incident, with #arrestKohli trending on social media platforms.
Many users suggested that the victory celebrations were arranged to accommodate Kohli’s travel plans to London the next day. Despite posting a message on Instagram expressing his condolences, users were disappointed with the lack of further engagement from Kohli.
In response to the incident, the police have taken action against those involved in organizing the RCB celebrations. The marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and three staff members of the event management company responsible for the event have been detained.
RCB announced financial aid for the victims’ families and set up a fund to support the injured fans. However, online criticism continues to focus on Kohli’s timing of departure and perceived lack of involvement following the tragedy.
