Senior officials of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), A Shankar and ES Jairam, resigned from their positions following a stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium during a felicitation event for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after winning the IPL title. The resignation was submitted to the president of the board, Raghuram Bhat. CID officials visited KSCA office in Bengaluru as the state government ordered a probe into the stampede that resulted in 11 deaths and multiple injuries. The Bengaluru Police filed an FIR against RCB for conducting the event without permission. RCB’s marketing head Nikhil Sosale was arrested, prompting a writ petition by KSCA claiming pressure from the state government. KSCA defended themselves stating the stampede was due to a crowd surge and highlighted the responsibility of crowd management on the franchise, event organizers, and police. Sosale challenged his arrest in the Karnataka High Court. RCB announced compensation for the deceased and medical expenses coverage for the injured. RCB is yet to release an official statement on Sosale’s arrest.
