Virender Sehwag has once again expressed his disagreement with Virat Kohli’s decision to retire from Test cricket, stating that Kohli could have continued playing for at least two more years. Sehwag pointed to Kohli’s impressive 43-run innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 as evidence of his capability to perform at the highest level. While Sehwag acknowledged that the decision ultimately lies with Kohli and his personal reasons, he believes that Kohli’s fitness and energy levels indicate that he still had more to offer in Test cricket.

Kohli’s retirement announcement came as a surprise to many, given his successful Test career that spanned 123 matches and 9,230 runs. Despite this, Kohli’s recent performance in the IPL showcased his enduring intensity and fitness. In the match against SRH, Kohli’s 43 runs off 25 balls was a standout performance for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, although they ultimately fell short in their chase.

Ishan Kishan’s superb knock of 94 not out led Hyderabad to a commanding total, with contributions from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. The Hyderabad bowlers then capitalized on RCB’s struggles, with Pat Cummins and Eshan Malinga picking up crucial wickets. Despite promising innings from Phil Salt and Kohli, RCB could not maintain momentum and fell short in their chase.
