The Kolkata Knight Riders’ upcoming home match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 may be rescheduled due to security concerns related to the Ram Navami celebrations. The city police have not provided security clearance for the match, citing the potential need for heightened security measures across West Bengal during the festivities. CAB president Snehasish Ganguly has stated that without adequate police protection, accommodating the expected 65,000-strong crowd at Eden Gardens would be impossible. The authorities have informed the BCCI about the situation, with a decision on rescheduling still pending. This is not the first time a KKR match has been affected by security concerns during Ram Navami, as a game against Rajasthan Royals had to be rescheduled last season. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the match, Eden Gardens is set to host the season opener between KKR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with a grand opening ceremony planned featuring popular singer Shreya Ghoshal and actress Disha Patani. Additionally, KKR will enter the season under the leadership of new captain Ajinkya Rahane, following Shreyas Iyer’s departure to Punjab Kings in the mega auctions.
