Samson, starting off with three single-digit scores for his new franchise, made a remarkable comeback with an unbeaten 115 off 56 balls. Partnering with Ruturaj Gaikwad, he led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a strong start, reaching 61 in the Powerplay. Despite Gaikwad’s early departure, Samson and Ayush Mhatre built a crucial 113-run partnership, setting the foundation for CSK’s imposing total of 213.
Mhatre played a fearless innings of 59 off 36 balls before retiring out, allowing Shivam Dube to finish with a quick 20 off 10 balls. Samson, who was dropped on 52, capitalized on his luck and crafted a brilliant century, his fourth in the IPL. His innings not only anchored CSK’s total but also showcased his star power and potential for the future.
In response, Delhi Capitals (DC) faltered in their chase, losing wickets in quick succession to CSK’s bowlers. Jamie Overton shone with the ball, taking 4/18 and dismantling DC’s batting line-up. Despite a valiant effort from Tristan Stubbs, DC fell short and were bowled out on the last ball of the innings.
With this victory, CSK not only secured their first win of the tournament but also ended their losing streak at Chepauk. DC captain Axar Patel credited CSK’s superior fielding and the quick fall of wickets for their defeat, acknowledging the challenges faced during the chase.
