Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with a thrilling four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Noor Ahmad, CSK’s new recruit, stole the show with a brilliant debut, taking 4/18 to restrict MI to 155/9.
MI’s opening match curse continued as they suffered their 13th consecutive defeat, with Rohit Sharma falling early to left-arm pace yet again. Despite a brief partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, MI struggled to score runs. Noor Ahmad’s exceptional spell, which included key wickets of Suryakumar and Tilak, put CSK in control.
In the chase, CSK got off to a flying start in the PowerPlay, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s aggressive batting. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Gaikwad’s quickfire fifty kept CSK ahead. Debutant Vignesh Puthur impressed for MI with three wickets, but Rachin Ravindra’s composed innings ensured CSK stayed on course.
The match had a tense moment when a mix-up between Ravindra and Ravindra Jadeja briefly brought MS Dhoni to the crease. However, Ravindra’s unbeaten 65 off 45 balls guided CSK to victory in the final over. The 30,000 fans at Chepauk witnessed a thrilling contest as CSK started their campaign on a winning note.
