Punjab Kings have successfully signed Glenn Maxwell for Rs. 4.20 crore at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The bidding war began with Sunrisers Hyderabad, followed by Chennai Super Kings, but it was Punjab Kings who ultimately secured the deal. Maxwell was released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru before the auction, where he had been for the past three seasons.
Maxwell started his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils in 2012 and has since played for Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab before joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In his 134 IPL matches, the Australian all-rounder has scored 2771 runs at a strike rate of 156.73 and has taken 37 wickets with an economy rate of 8.28.
Punjab Kings made other significant signings at the auction, including Shreyas Iyer for Rs. 26.75 crore, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal for Rs. 18 crore each. Maxwell’s addition to the team is expected to strengthen their lineup for the upcoming season.
