Punjab Kings’ captain Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL match against Gujarat Titans. Despite this, Punjab Kings managed to secure a victory against GT by three wickets in their IPL 2026 campaign opener.
The fine was imposed on Iyer as it was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses. Pacer Vyshak Vijayakumar and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal played a crucial role in restricting GT to 162 for six by taking five wickets collectively.
Although Punjab Kings faced some challenges with their batting, they managed to chase down the target in 19.1 overs. Young Australian batsman Cooper Connolly was the star of the match, guiding the team to victory with an unbeaten 72 off 44 balls.
The match took place on April 1, 2026, marking the beginning of Punjab Kings’ IPL 2026 journey on a positive note. Despite the slow over-rate issue, the team showed resilience and determination to come out on top against Gujarat Titans.
