Punjab Kings (PBKS) will be looking to recover from their recent defeat as they face off against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday. The loss to the Delhi Capitals (DC) has left PBKS still fighting for a top-two spot in the standings. Despite posting a strong total of 206 for eight in their last match, PBKS couldn’t defend it as DC chased it down in the final over.
PBKS spin-bowling coach Sunil Joshi acknowledged the team’s inconsistency in the middle overs and highlighted the need to address this issue. Yuzvendra Chahal is expected to return to the bowling attack for PBKS after being rested in the previous game.
MI, on the other hand, is also vying for a spot in Qualifier 1 and will need to win their final league game to secure it. Suryakumar Yadav has been in top form for MI, accumulating 583 runs at a strike rate of 170.46. PBKS will be aiming to dismiss him early in the game.
MI has been strong in the PowerPlay overs, with Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar leading the way with eight wickets each in this phase. PBKS’ opening duo of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh will have a tough task ahead in facing MI’s bowling attack early on.
The pitch is expected to favor the batsmen, as seen in the past few matches where teams batting first have scored over 200 runs. Both teams will be looking to utilize scoreboard pressure to their advantage in this crucial encounter.
