BCCI’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, recently announced Team India’s squad for the upcoming Test tour of England, including the inclusion of Arshdeep Singh. Singh, a left-arm pacer, has been a consistent performer in India’s T20I and ODI squads and has now earned a call-up to the Test team based on his impressive performances. Despite being the sole left-arm pacer in the squad, former cricketer Ricky Ponting, who coaches Singh at Punjab Kings, has advised the Indian team management to field him in the first Test against England starting on June 20.

Ponting believes that Singh’s skills with the Dukes ball will be beneficial in English conditions due to his experience playing county cricket in 2023. Standing at close to six-foot-four, Singh’s ability to generate bounce and swing the ball could provide a unique advantage for the Indian team. Ponting also commended Singh’s selection by applauding him during a team meeting, expressing confidence in his ability to perform well in England. The decision to include Singh in the playing XI for the first Test could provide India with a strategic advantage, according to Ponting.
