The Mumbai Indians fans were equally upset as the five-time champions were knocked out of the tournament, allowing Punjab to reach their first IPL final since 2014. Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by five wickets, with Shreyas Iyer scoring an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls. The match was delayed by rain but resumed with no overs lost, ending with Punjab chasing down Mumbai’s score with an over to spare. The defeat was hard for Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya, who took the blame for the loss. The final will be between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, both teams vying for their first IPL title.
